I am a Canadian journalist with a British passport currently based in London, U.K.
I grew up in Toronto, where I worked at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) as an Associate Producer in local and national television, radio and digital news for just over two years before deciding to move to London for love–and by for love, I mean I moved because I love London. How’s that for romance?
After taking the leap across the pond, I joined The Independent, where I worked as a staff sub-editor and wrote news and feature stories, before eventually joining Newsweek, where I currently serve as a staff reporter covering politics, immigration and rights issues.
I have had my work published by The Independent, NewsweekCBCThe Globe and MailThe London Free Press, Techonomy.com, BetaKit.com, and others. Occasionally, you might also hear me chat about U.S. politics and news on BBC Radio 5 Live.
I have reported on stories from around the world, including reporting from refugee camps in Lebanon and Greece. One such story, a joint report on how migrant women created a network to support women refugees seeking to build new lives in Athens, was awarded a Mass Migration Media Award in 2018.
I have an MA in Journalism from Western University, where I specialized in broadcast television and held an internship with the Special Investigations Unit at CBC. Before that, I studied physical anthropology at McMaster University.
My primary passions are politics, rights issues, immigration and getting to do any kind of investigating journalism. I love a good chase.
You can reach me at chantaldasilv@gmail.com–that’s right, no “a” at the end. It’s not a typo, I swear. Otherwise, feel free to slide into my DMs on Twitter @ChantalADaSilva.
